Here today to share two new dresses I was sent over the past few weeks that felt a little different to my usual style; the slip dress. Despite it being such a minimal and classic piece, which is normally right up my street, I have never really been the biggest fan. But thanks to my current bingeing of Sex and The City, Carrie Bradshaw is the blame for my change of heart. So we have two here, one I styled up in a casual day to day way, and the other something a little more evening appropriate. I have to say they are the perfect piece for this heatwave because they are easy to throw on and keep you feeling really cool, and while I am normally a fan of a shorter hem length there is something undeniably chic about a midi length.
The first one I have was sent from Reve en Verte, a luxury ethical brand who are completely transparent about their supply chain (you can read about it here) - this gorgeous orange shade is sadly sold out for the next few weeks but it is available in other colours here. I think the thing that I always found hard about slip dresses is the way they are sort of in-between tight and oversized, and it's something I always found awkward on my body. However, I really feel differently about that now - I actually find it super flattering. They sort of manage to skim wherever you do have curves, while remaining a looser fit on all the right parts too. For this orange number I styled it with my (now very worn in) Superga trainers. The amazing colour of this piece and the shine of the silk makes it so stand out that any shoes would work really because they are going to go sort of unnoticed - hence me opting for the most comfortable option.

Secondly we have something a little more sexy from Bec & Bridge. I think these two dresses show how different something so similar can feel - the leg slit on this obviously makes a world of difference, and while I would wear this with some Vans for day to day, it really does lend itself to being styled for a more evening look. Please do ignore that huge bruise on my leg too that the slit frames so perfectly, I have a few around that height from a new skill I gained where I constantly walk into tables, it's a right laugh. Again, I find this super flattering - the slight drape on the neck works really well with bigger boobs, and I love the detail of those super skinny spaghetti straps. For reference the darkest photo here shows the colour the best, it really is a metallic silver shade, which again makes it fit more into an evening category for me. I went full 90s mode and styled it with some strappy heels I have from Tibi, I think any style of strappy sandal is the best option with a dress like this one.
So all in all I think I am converted to slip dresses. I know both of these ones sit at a pricey end as they're both silk pieces, and I have to say I think it does bring a certain luxury into the item and makes it hang off the body in a really flattering way. Whether it be more of a special occasion piece or an everyday one throughout the Summer (they look amazing with cropped jackets thrown over too when things get a little cooler), I am hoping to get lots more wear out of these ones!
