Last week I spent some time soaking up that gorgeous Miami sunshine (more on what we did/where we stayed coming tomorrow). I obviously got very into the swing of my Summer wardrobe and have lots of looks to share with you today in on GIIAAANNNTT blog post. From casual day time, beach looks and some evening inspiration I think this wins awards for a well rounded blog post. I am really hoping I can experiment a little more with my Summer wardrobe this season. I feel like I have gotten into the usual trans-seasonal style rut of wearing a daily uniform and I can't wait to break away from it and hopefully try a few new things too. For me the hughstreet always reigns supreme for the Summer months, aside form the odd accessory I don't find myself investing as much during the warm months (perhaps because those months are so few), and I feel I tend to buy a little more into trends and pieces that are away from my comfort zone. So this post really is showing the beginnings of that... so let's talk outfits!
Swimwear isn't really an outfit but it's something I am getting more and more into. Would you guys like a post dedicated to this? I would be willing to brave the awful idea of doing a whole shoot in a bikini for you all if you wanted some recommendations. I have made many a mistake with swimwear in the past due to getting the sizing and fit wrong, easily done when you have big boobs. Currently favourite brands are Peony, Solid and Striped, Her and Asceno.
This was my outfit on the first day when it was a little overcast. It always takes me a day to ease into a holiday wardrobe so day 1 is often a thrown together outfit of basics. My trusty Levi's shorts - these began life as jeans and I cut them then had them tailored to fit perfectly. My Vans never get left behind on a city break, some of the best shoes to stomp the streets in at any time of year. My Toteme t-shirt which is the coolest white tee I own, and then a huge jumper which quickly came off because it turns out clouds doesn't equate to cold in Miami (it was roasting). The one thing I do always invest in every year is some new sunglasses, they just can transform the most simple looks like this. I bought this pair from No.21 in Selfridges before I went and I love the colour, they are also insanely comfortable which is more I can say for a lot of the glasses I have!
One thing I always love in the Summer is the combination of a crop top and high waisted jeans. I have a short body so I can wear this without really showing off much of my tummy at all which definitely is the part of my body I am the least confident with. The key for me is not getting a really thin crop top too (boobs would emerge from the bottom of that, not a good look). I am hoping to get a few different pairs of high waisted trousers (especially a cream pair) to recreate this look in lots of different ways. The crops tops are the hardest bit to find, this cream Stories one is from last Summer and comes away with me every holiday because it was such a good find.
Listening to my Mum's advice, I definitely want to wear a few more skirts. I picked this one up in Topshop because I am apparently a sucker of a polka dot (who knew), and Monikh has been inspiring me with her amazing styling of midi skirts like this one. Of course this will really come into it's own for evening looks (strappy sandals and a silk cami would be incredible and give you all the SJP in Sex and the City vibes you would wish for), but I am loving it for more casual combinations too. For me, it's still a piece I am not 100% comfortable in because it seems so not 'me', but looking at these photos I do love how it looks so I will definitely persevere.
Who remembers these Isabel Marant trousers I bought a few months ago? Well they are still featuring in lots of my outfits, they are just SO DAMN TIGHT they cut me in half and you really have to be in the mood to suffer a bit to wear them. But I love the colour and shape so much they sometimes they are just worth it, and worn with a giant shirt like this is just such an effortless look for an evening! Also wearing and oversized top makes it possible to leave a restaurant with it untucked and the pants unzipped underneath, which is 100% what I did.
This & Other Stories shirt is 100% going to be a winning piece for me over the summer, especially when worn tied up like this. Again, it's a good way to go for a crop top without actually showing off much skin, and I love wearing it like this with no buttons done up (much more secure than you might think too). Also this is a piece I then wear as beach cover up throughout the week so it really is a versatile one to throw into the suitcase.
