The other day I went out in this look, and only now have I realised it's significance. I didn't wear a jumper. This must be the first time in months, and I really do mean months. I mean, I have dabbled with the odd t-shirt here and there, but my dedication to jumpers has been pretty unwavering (honestly, scroll back through the blog a little, jumpers as far as the eye can see!) Jumpers fuel my love for lazy dressing in a way a shirt cannot. A shirt is more high maintenance; the number of undone buttons has to be thought through, I find the collar makes it a trickier layering piece, and the cuffs dunk in my coffee. Despite these (very first world) problems, I am glad I braved a shirt. It definitely adds so much more to an outfit. The way the (coffee free) cuffs stick out from under the jacket adds just the right amount of colour, and a shirt tucked into jeans is infinitely more flattering than a jumper. I am thinking of bringing out the shirt far more often from now on. And as far as shirt shopping goes, my tips would be to stick to the mens section, or go for women's oversized, and make sure the collar and cuffs are stiff for an effortlessly smart touch.
