Taking a short break from denim (it will always be short, no matter how hard I try) today and stepping into the world of slightly more glamorous looks. I wore this look for New Years Eve and have been wanting to share it on here since because I loved it so much. Both the dress and boots (which you have seen a few more times, and sadly aren't getting any comfier) were sale purchases over Christmas - and they really are a match made in heaven together. The dress was actually a lot longer when it arrived but I took it to the tailors to have it taken up a little bit. I know it can seem like such a ball ache having to do that sometimes, but it's always so worth it when you end up with the perfect piece afterwards (I have never, ever regretted spending more money on tailoring an item). Not only does it make it the perfect length for me to wear with these boots during the winter, but also for the summer with some two strap sandals or slides. The huge sleeves make it such a statement piece while being effortless - a sentence I feel like I have written so many times about different items, but is always so important to me. There is so much to be said for the pieces like this within our wardrobes that we can just reach for and instantly feel amazing in - whether it be a rushed getting ready for a night out, or just the need for a little pick me up, an amazing dress and great heels can do so much for my mood.
Of course I nearly froze on New Years wearing this, and then again when I went out to shoot these photos, but sometimes it's just worth it. I have said before about these boots; they were damn expensive and they are killer to wear, but that is part of what makes them worth it. It's definitely not a mantra I would ever build my whole wardrobe around, but sometimes these impractical pieces and sartorial choices are just so worth it. Maybe its because it reminds me of teenage nights out in Leeds where we spent hours and hours getting ready only to totter out in heels we couldn't walk in and freeze to death in the shortest dresses you can imagine, and it's totally part of the fun of a night out! While I always place a focus on making sensible purchases that have longevity in your wardrobe, there will always be room for fun here and there too.
